2002 Sunfire Electrical Issue

I recently noticed a hole in the carpet of the driver side of my 2002 Sunfire, after pulling the carpet back to take a look I noticed a burnt electrical harness/connector that has melted. It appears that this is coming from the hood release switch. The harness is green and blue. Please see the images below.

Does anyone know what this is for/connected to? and how would I go about fixing this?

We have the exact same issue on our 2002 sunfire. Did you find out what the problem was or how did you solve it?
