Re: What would be the value for sale on these kits.
Depends on the condition, and manufacturer (you mention just few). But looking at the list, with few exceptions, these should sell for about $10-15 each.

Re: What would be the value for sale on these kits.
Kits do not actually have any value. They are worth only what someone will pay you for them.
They are not like comics and baseball cards, they are not 'collectible', and there is no decided value that a kit is sold at. No one owes you $25 for any kit. You may be able to sell it easily for $15, a buyer willing to pay $20 may not be hard to find, and you might be able to sell it for $25 or 30 if you are patient. If you are really patient, you might be able to find someone willing to pay you $50. But that does not mean that the kit is worth $50, only that one person is willing to pay $50 at one moment. Kits trade on Ebay for given ranges of values, but that also does not mean that they are actually worth that much money- only that some buyers have been willing to pay that. The next buyer who wants one may not be willing to pay that much. A kit is worth nothing at all until you have money in hand from someone paying you for it. If you want to sell your collection, please post it in the classified section.

I'm saying that it is not even worth 4000 yen. So it has been sold in the past for $200. So what? That certainly does not mean that every one of those kits made is suddenly worth $200. It also does not mean that another one will sell for $200. The last chump that wanted one for $200 already has his kit- the next chump might not want to spend that much. If there's no one who will give you that much money, it doesn't matter at all what the last one traded for. "Regularly goes for XXX on Ebay" is a fantasy. The only thing you can accurately say is "has gone for XXX in the past on Ebay." The next one might sell for something similar, or it may sell for something completely different. The price someone has paid for one might help you guess what someone else might pay for yours. And it might not. A model kit is worth nothing until you have money in hand for it.

Re: What would be the value for sale on these kits.
One thing i can point out is i agree with mpwr, but i do disagree in some points. As far as comics and cards, they actually have a set price which changes in the beckett price guide every month or so. So prices are based upon that. As far as models though, i look at them the same way. Even though they don't have a price guide because they aren't looked as collectables, they still generate much money. Due to the kits being not produced anymore, so in theory they should sell for more as there is less of them. But like mpwr stated it depends on how much a person wants that kit. Some of the kits you have are out of production which does mean you should get more then what they sold for when they were produced.
The aero and 345 kits should generate anywhere from $20-$50 on ebay. But you will never know until you sell them. Depends on how much money someone is willing to fork over for them. I bought a couple revell corrados for $60-$90, but i also sold one for $120 and saw some sell for $150! Just like the hasegawa four door civics, and bmw e36s. They sell for far more than they are worth. Just look at this one! http://cgi.ebay.com/Fujimi-1-24-scal...d=p3286.c0.m14 Good luck on selling them, be patient and you should get what you want for them. |

Re: What would be the value for sale on these kits.
The predictability of prices in future transactions is based on probability. The accuracy of prediction is proportional to the quantity of known transactions in the recent past. Random events also play a part. Anyone who's been interested in the recent trauma at the investment banks has heard about "derivatives". Banks wanted to insure the future transaction prices of their investment positions from bankruptcy of the underlying firms so they bought an insurance policy(credit default swaps). AIG based the premium of the derivative based on randomness. They ignored the domino effect of concentrating the random risk of all the other banks' financial positions in other banks, in another bank!
A thing I find interesting about eBay is watching auctions for very rare stuff when it's hard to predict the transaction price (like Grip 1/8 McLarens). If the item brings a higher price than predicted there is no supply of sellers rushing to sell their McLarens and "drop" the price back to trend. It becomes the new market price, unless it doesn't. I think that's what MPWR was getting at. But to say something has no value until it's sold makes no sense. The world economy is based on credit. Credit couldn't exist if things had no value until they were sold. Last edited by CrateCruncher; 08-31-2009 at 09:54 PM. |

If they're not "collectible", how come I have so many in my stash?

Re: What would be the value for sale on these kits.
I think the point is, the supposed value of the kit is almost meaningless until you have sold it.
If what you want is $100, having a kit in your hand that might be sold at $100 isn't the same as having that $100. Then there is, as he said, the fact that not everyone will pay $100 for it. The thing to bare in mind when it comes to selling is this i) what did you pay for the kit? ii) are you willing to take a loss on the kit? Adjust your selling prices according to your answers.

Re: What would be the value for sale on these kits.
I think what was paid for the kit is completely irrelevant to the current transaction. But I also concede, taking a loss is a harsh fact of life sometimes.
Honest guys, I love price theory. Let's keep this topic going! |
