Carbon Ceramic Discs

I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to paint carbon ceramic discs? There is a tutorial on this site on making the Crazy Modeler PE brakes and they look really realistic on that, how do I recreate it?

Thanks in advance for any replies

I have no idea how CM did that but a fellow member here uses a mix of Tamiya flat black and gunmetal. Iäve tried that and I'm really happy with the results.

Thanks for that. I have gunmetal and flat black but one is acrylic and the other enamel, I don't suppose it's a great to mix the two?

Alex, which way did you prefer? The first one or the second one?

Re: Carbon Ceramic Discs

I think a thinned dark wash over a chrome surface would simulate carbon discs. Well, I can't seem to upload anything right now...if I can later, I will. Just my $0.02.

Re: Carbon Ceramic Discs

Hi Brothers,
I had a couple of chance to try in another way....
looks like the carbon brakes are kind of rough on the surface, so first of all a matt surface shoudl do the job. I try to have a gun metal base from Gunze color to start with. when the base color is done for the discs, I have thickened the paint with more flat black. at a level of thickness where the paint starts to get rough from the air brush, i have slightly sprayed these rougher, darker colors onto the discs. these rougher dots appears to be a pattern that i guess can be matched with some of the reference pics.

from the pic below, you may see some little dots over the disc and hope this give another options for you guys....

Re: Carbon Ceramic Discs

Here are the pics I was trying to post yesterday. It shows the brakes being VERY shiny, but also having the "stipling" effect that Joey pointed out.
