Transmission troubles

Would a 1996 neon trans work in a 2003 neon sxt.

I think a 1996 auto transmission would work in a 1995 to 1999 Neon, but the 2nd generation of Neons had a lot more interaction between the Powertrain Control Module and the tranny. Thats why I am guessing it would not be an easy swap. If you go to www.rockauto.com and put in the make, year, & model, you can see the part # for the trannies for the years you are asking about. The 96 uses a 31TH 3 speed tranny, the 2003 uses a 41TE 4 speed tranny. I have no idea about the manual trannies.
