Hard Start...Lifters knockin after start-up for like 2 min. 2000 Chevy Silverado 5.3L
It will not start on the first key turn period. But the second crank of the key, it starts instantly. The lifters (is all i can think of) knock like the first two minutes after a cold start-up. WHATS THE DEAL!!??

the use of the fram filter should not be continued.....I use the purolator plus filter...wix also is a high quality filter... cutting open these oil filters reveals the fram as a cheap low quality filter media that can break apart... I suspect the lifters are leaking down due to deposits loosened by the oil change....put 4-5 oz. of marvel mystrey oil into the crankcase and see if the noise goes away....after a few hundred miles,,a couple of days.. monitor the condition of the oil ...when it gets black or very dark replace the oil and filter,,,then cut open the filter to determine how bad the engine is gooped up...continue to repeat this proccess until the oil stays clean for a couple of thousand miles.. |

Re: Hard Start...Lifters knockin after start-up for like 2 min. 2000 Chevy Silverado
My 2000 Silverado does the same thing, but with the oil pressure bouncing around and the knocking noise going up as the oil pressure drops. I let it warm up for at least two minutes most times. Once the engine has reached operating temp from driving around, the knocking noise and the low oil pressure problem go away. It runs great once its warm. Maybe someone has some input on where to start troubleshooting this problem.
I'm thinking about going up to a 10w40HM oil to help with the oil pressure since it is near 100 degrees everyday around here. Dont think the 5w30 would help my truck. |

i just took my truck into the shop...it had 29 PSI pressure in the fuel system, which is like 1/3 of whats it suppose to be. Anyways the fuel pump is bad.

the pressure of 29psi and the engine ran is very odd....usually less than 50 psi and it is very dead..

if you are concerned about heat use the synthetic oil....dino oil no matter what viscosity will rapidly vaporize.. Last edited by j cAT; 01-03-2011 at 09:47 AM. |
