Engine mounts?

RKSport engine mounts.

Im thinking of buying RK sports engine mount in the next couple weeks. Would like to hear anyones inputs on these as far as ease of installation, installation problems known or any notice of increased performane?

Re: Engine mounts?

I guess the only thing is that it reduces torque roll...so you will start better from a dig...but i have no idea how to install them...

Re: Engine mounts?

Manual trans or auto, motor mount make no diff, but tranny mounts are only on a manual transmission.

with that said...the lower mount, take off the passenger wheel (of course jack the car up properly and use stands) you can see the mount behind the brakes under the motor, it's the lowest part of the motor on that side. ready for this... take out the two bolts, remove the mount, put in the new mount, and put the two bolts back in, using proper torque of course. and yes, it only goes in one way.

Upper mount, you need to replace just the insert in the mount, remove the mount, take it apart, remove the rubber insert, put in the poly insert and re-install the mount. You DO need to hold the motor up while working on this mount, I suggest an engine hoist, it works the best IMO, but a rope and a tree also work.

And with that you are now mounted, go feel the power, and the vibrations the motor will now transmit throughout the ENTIRE car. You get use to it, believe me, I have them. you do feel like the motor is "bogging" down when you take off though, it's not, it just has no rubber to shake in any more.

as far as engine support, will using a jack up underneath the engine work? as long as something is between the jack and the engine to provide broader support?

Re: Engine mounts?

you shouldn't jack on the pan, but if you are in a good location, maybe at the lower mount, it shouldn't hurt. but on the pan, I wouldn't chance it.
