Re: Mclaren F1 for sale in the UK - anyone know about this one ?

Yeah - if that is an actual quote from someone at DK, I would be a little disappointed. The press makes a lot of mistakes though.

I do find it odd that this car is getting so much press lately. I wonder if the expectation was that it might sell more quickly than it has, so now they are trying to generate further interest in it through news-based advertising?

It took the Gulf longtail GTR for sale at BingoSports a full year before it got noticed by any of the mainstream publications, and even then there were no quotes from the agents at BingoSports in those articles from what I can recall.

This article seems to imply the car has had a lot of potential new owners, but there must be a reason why a deal has not been consumated. I know they recently lowered the price considerably, and have uncustomarily not been ashamed to mention that publicly. You'd think some of those earlier customers might be back to look again now.

The best part (I guess) is if someone wants a F1 GTR right now and has the means to purchase one, there are certainly several to choose from.

Here is what Mr. B has said recently

Actually, Chris was being slightly sarcastic with his comment, as that figure printed of '40 cars for racing' is someone's mistake.

In reality, McLaren built a total of 28 GTRs over 3 years - 9 '95-spec, 9 '96-spec, and 10 of the '97-spec longtails. I can count to 9 the number of GTRs that I have seen wearing a real registration plate up to this point, some with varying levels of conversion to achieve that.
