Re: Passed Emissions...AGAIN almost 200k miles

Yea, I think it's crazy that a car with this small of an engine has to go through those emission tests. There are motorcycles with bigger engines than this. The cats are a big danger to the valves and often times lead to burning. Since I knocked the guts out of my cat, the darned thing runs much cooler and has more power.

But they can detect whether your cat is working properly at the test site right?

I have always wondered about that

Absolutely, and there's a $50K fine for purposely defeating an emissions control device. A properly working cat doesn't affect your engine's performance at all.

I beg to differ. My car runs a lot cooler now and has more power

Re: Passed Emissions...AGAIN almost 200k miles

If that's the case, then there was something wrong with that cat.

Re: Passed Emissions...AGAIN almost 200k miles

There may have been. I did have it replaced a couple years ago. Funny thing is, now, with the AC running and 100+ degrees outside, my temperature guage doesn't go above 1/3, where as before, it ran above half without the AC running. and as a result, I ended up with two burned valves. I pulled the head and had all the valves replaced and now it's a totally different car.

Re: Passed Emissions...AGAIN almost 200k miles

Just chiming in. My car passed the emissions test last week here in Las Vegas, Nevada. Since I had a valve job done 2 years ago it has passed each time easily. Odometer reads 170,000 miles but that's with the valve job.
