99 Sillhouette Premiere - Hard start and gas smell

A month or so ago I started noticing a slight gas smell after driving my van. Also it would sometimes take a couple of tries to start if it was a cold start on a hot day. The symptoms went away for a few weeks, then came back and got a bit worse. We had the coldest July on record, never hit 90.
There are no check engine codes, performance issues, mileage drop, or fuel leaks.

I did a bit of research and think it could be a leaking evap canister/vent valve, but that should set a code.

Any ideas,

Dustin

Check the fuel pressure regulator.

Remove the vacuum hose and if fuel comes out, replace the regulator.

It's located directly behind the throttle spring.
