01 Grand Prix DRL Problem

Hi. I've got an '01 GTP and the DRL is always on. Even when it's in park and switched to OFF. According to manual this should turn it off. I read other threads about disabling DR so I removed the wire harness to the heat sink inside the driver side door jam. DRL will still not turn off!! What is wrong with this thing?

Re: 01 Grand Prix DRL Problem

Welcome to AF.

Just to clarify so members know what you are referring to is this just an issue with specifically the daytime running lights or the auto headlight system like the low beams not turning off.

Re: 01 Grand Prix DRL Problem

I was trying to understand the normal function of the daytime running lights. I think I misunderstood the owner's manual. If I understand correctly now, the only way to have the headlamps be off is to start the car with the parking brake set.

My second question was about disabling the DRL. After I pulled the connector from the heat sink, I could swear that the lights were still turning on. But after finishing a blower motor resistor replacement and replacing a burnt headlamp I went to check again and the headlamps were turning off. So, I must have imagined it.

One final question. After pulling the connector from the heat sink, when it got close to some metal housing it sparked. I tucked the connector away from the housing but should I be pulling a fuse or something to prevent any possible problems with that?
