2003 FORD WINDSTAR Transmission issues, lots of codes.

Friend of mine in down the street went threw a good size puddle and since then the transmission acting strange.

OD light flashing check engine light on a/c compressor inop.

Has the following codes...

P1409
p1451
P1747
P0743
P0750
P0755
P0141
P0161
P0135
P0443
P0760
P0155

Is it possible the ECM took a dump? not sure what codes that may have been stored before the transmission issue.

Did a search and found nothing like this.

The brake switch is dry along with the switch on the linkage, (neutral safety switch?)

looks like 4 codes are transmission and the others are emission related.

all fuses and fuse links check out ok even #10

ANY help would be much appreciated

Joe.

Re: 2003 FORD WINDSTAR Transmission issues, lots of codes.

I looked up your code definitions:

P0135 - Upstream Oxygen sensor bank 1 HEATER circuit malfunction
P0141 - Downstream Oxygen sensor bank 1 HEATER circuit malfunction
P0155 - Downstream Oxygen sensor bank 2 circuit malfunction
P0161 - Downstream Oxygen sensor bank 2 HEATER circuit malfuntion
P0443 - Evaporative emission control system purge control solenoid/ vapor managemen valve circuit malfunction
P0760 - Shift Solenoid 3 (SS3) circuit malfunction
P0743 - TCC electrical system performance
P0750 - Shift Solenoid 1 (SS1) circuit malfunction
P0755 - Shift Solenoid 2 (SS2) circuit malfunction
P1409 - EGR vacuum regulator solenoid circuit
p1451 - EVAP Control System Canister Vent Solenoid Circuit Malfunction
P1747 - Electronic Pressure Control Solenoid - Short Circuit

That's a lot of codes, all seem to point to either O2 sensors or transmission issues.

Of course with so many different systems failing at one time, you might think that the common thread is the PCM. Another thought is that there is a different common issue, or at least common original cause.

What kind of puddle (salt water?) and how deep?

I don't think the front end got swamped. heavy rain at an intersection.

To be honest with you i think the check engine light was on before the transmission issues.

I believe the O2 sensor and evap codes were already there.

Then the transmission issues jumped in.

Re: 2003 FORD WINDSTAR Transmission issues, lots of codes.

Sounds like the unexpected bath may be responsible for some of your problems. Seeing how you have the codes recorded - my next step would be to erase the codes not with your code reader - but by disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes. Then see what you've got

Good Luck-
Glenn

Thank you for the reply's,

From what I have been reading I am leaning toward the Transmission Range Sensor.

Not expensive and easy to replace and about the most exposed to the elements.

Re: 2003 FORD WINDSTAR Transmission issues, lots of codes.

One could clear the codes.....as the PCM stores them for a while from when the failure happens.....so that one can diagnose problems (including intermittent problems).
Then see what code(s) come back.
Maybe you will have fewer codes once things have had a chance to dry out.
I can think of no one component that would cause all those codes, except the PCM.....which is not likely (possible but not likely).
Replacing all the items that would be logical for the list of codes would be quite expensive.
So.....first step that I would do is see what problems are still there after things have dried out.....and are truely defective.

Oxygen sensors and evap. canistor are LOW under the car......and might not like being completely under water.
Also for oxygen sensors......checking the connectors.
But again......let's see what codes come back now that things have dried out.
