Porsche 911 Carrera 1997 Inspired by 70's RS Style
I am basing the colour scheme for this Porsche on one that I liked on a 1970's Carrera RS I saw advertised in Motorsport magazine a while ago. It was black with green stripes and wheel centres and I thought it would look good on the 1997 version too!
I have spent a lot of time lowering the standard suspension, this involved plenty of careful bending of the kit's suspension parts. I finally managed to get it to sit as I want without breaking anything which was a bonus! Since these photos were taken I have applied the black gloss but it wan't too successful with a lot of dust particles for some reason but I should be able to rub this out when properly dry and I also plan to apply clear once I have completed the green stripes down the lower side of the doors and front and rear bumpers. ![]() ![]() I spent ages masking the wheel centres with blue tack! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

A picture of the early 1970's one that I am basing the scheme on is below. As you say, very similar to the new GT3RS scheme!

If you buy the 1973 RS 2.7 kit by Fuyimi you can use the decals of this kit. The kit is delivered with 3 colours.

There are decals available on eBay, with several more colors available.

Re: Porsche 911 Carrera 1997 Inspired by 70's RS Style
Thanks for the info, I will probably paint my own stripes without the Carrera script because the idea was to be similar in style to 1970's RS but not exactly the same plus I will know that the colour of the stripes will perfectly match the wheel centres.
May still get the Fujimi one too though as it is a nice kit!

Re: Porsche 911 Carrera 1997 Inspired by 70's RS Style
Finally managed to complete the green stripes and the clear coat. After about 3 hours of wet sanding followed by polishing this is how it looks. I am really pleased with the result. Although as usual the photographs show every imperfection that I had not noticed!
Just the detail stuff to do now and I can start thinking about completion, that will be 2 whole models completed in a year! Wow! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

The paint looks spot on.
Are you going to use a carrera decal for the sides? |

Re: Porsche 911 Carrera 1997 Inspired by 70's RS Style
Thanks for the comment, I thought I would just keep the painted green stripe for this one. I know it looks a bit different to the original but hopefully when complete I think it will look ok!
