Its Back...AGAIN

My problem of my car, 91 Civic DX cutting out is back yet again, except now a little worse. EVERY time the various garages do something it works fine for a couple of weeks then its back again.
Today i was on my way home when i felt the car die, i managed to pull over and found that no belts were broken or anything like that.
Got in and the car started no probs then cut out, tried reving it and it kept loosing revs, couldnt keep my foot in the same positon or it died.
A clunking noise started coming from fuel tank area. it finally cleared what ever was wrong except idling rough now. Have STP in what is wrong?

Re: Its Back...AGAIN

clunk from the fuel tank? fuel pump going out maybe? Had a Chevy Van at work that'd work sometimes and cut out while driving, turned out to be a fuel pump relay or something like that.

There should be another thread about this. But the thing under the back seat was the sending unit IIRC. You acctually have to drop the tank in order to get to the fuel pump. Least in these Honda's it looks pretty easy. Did it once on my 87 camaro and took me damn near all night.

Re: Its Back...AGAIN

carb? u in aussie or something? to get to the fuel pump take out the back seat and there are 2 plate things in the floor, one for fuel pump and one for fuel sending unit sensor thing. Dont drop the tank! The fuel pump main relay is under the dash, like right above the hood popper thing.

Re: Its Back...AGAIN

My 1991 Hatch did the same thing....turned out to be the ignitor inside the Distributor....I replaced the whole thing for about $110.

Re: Its Back...AGAIN

you have to drop the tank for the fuel pump there is no magic door/plate for the fuel pump there is one for the sending unit, i just installed a walbro pump in my 90 dx hatch and i dropped the tank casue u have too.... sounds like what my dizzy was doing to me when it went out. but the clunking from the fuel area that is interesting... i would have the fuel system check for the proper pressure, and volume of fuel flow

is this car a hatch or a 4 door? there may be a axcess for the pump on a 4 door, im not familiar with them, but on a hatch there is not
