Question SL1 reception problem with new stereo

I just replaced the stock radio in my '99 SL1 with a new Kenwood AM/FM/CD. Made sure I had the correct wiring harness adapter, antenna adapter and mounting kit. CD works like a charm however I'm having major reception issues. Removed unit to insure the antenna cables were connected. The weird part is that, if I run my hand around the outside of the stereo, certain channels will come in clearer or get louder. Other station that are local and come in strong in my other car don't come in at all. I noticed that the antenna (stock) had a wire 'wrapped' around it. Is there a fuse I should be looking for?

Re: SL1 reception problem with new stereo

Thats one of the issues with the newer radios I have notices. The AM/FM part SUCKS! The stock radio was great in receiving stations. I have the same issue but not so bad. Im not sure exactly what wire your talking about that was wrapped around the antenna wire though.

I would search to make sure the antenna size that is on the car is correct for your radio. Some of the newer radios are designed to work with small antennas that fit in the window or even smaller (such as the shark fin on the Audi's)
