81 G20 Carburetor problem(?)
My girlfriends dad has a 1981 Chevy G20 5.0L. He took a short trip over the weekend and on his way back it started running bad (wanted to stall, etc.) and had trouble getting it started - I think that was a battery problem but I will get more details later. Anyways when he got home he removed the doghouse and he said when it was idling the carburetor was filling up with gas. I am a mechanic but honestly I don't know much about carburetors.
Any suggestions, ideas, etc... Thanks Joe

Re: 81 G20 Carburetor problem(?)
I assume this has the original Quadrajet. Maybe you could carefully unbolt the top and clean out/replace and adjust the float and needle and seat assembly and replace the gasket. Sometimes the casting on an old Quadra can leak, but it might just be a bad or dirty float needle and seat or gasket.

Float leaking, filling the intake with fuel. Is it burning black exhaust??? Carefully remove the carb, the top of the carb body, to NOT spill fuel out of the bowl, and check the float.
Vacuum leak will also cause flooding. Any loping idle? |

The Quadrajet is very easy to rebuild and parts are much easy to get.Muscle Car,a tv show on Spike TV did an episode how to rebuild these carbs.
