Only starts on occasion?

I have been pulling my hair out over this, so I am hoping someone can help me. My 2004 impala just recently started having problems. It started with the pos and neg wires connecting to the battery melting. My husband replaced the wires, and the battery. Obviously, it was neither of those. In the process of trying to take the starter out so he could go test it, it broke, so that has also been replaced. Recently we also checked the alternator, and its not that either. The car acts really weird, it only starts on occasion, and is often hard to start up. Along with this, when it is started the hazard lights continuously flash and wont go off.

Recently.. The Check Engine light, and battery light have came on.
Any ideas? because we're out of them.

It sounds like you have an electrical short circuit somewhere. It kinda sounds like its somewhere one the primary wiring. I would thoroughly check the wire from the battery to the starter, also from the alternator to the battery. The hazard lights coming on definitely makes it an electrical short.

Re: Only starts on occasion?

Welcome to AF. How did both the cables burn? When it won't start what are the symptoms, no crank, crank no start, does the security lite stay on when this happens, not much info to work with here. What code/s are in the pcm?

Re: Only starts on occasion?

Thank you. I'm not completely sure of how the cables burned. When it wont start it doesn't crank, it just makes this strange buzzing noise. The security light isn't on, the check engine light is on. Which remains on even if it does decide to start. When my husband ran the diagnostic it didn't come up with anything being wrong with the car. No codes, no nothing.

Tough to help you with this without a full diagnostic check, look for bad grounds on engine side of the ground cable. the cel should store a code.
