Nissan Fairlady Version Nismo

This will be a straight fast built, target 3 weeks, reason is because this is a VERY simple kit, no suspension details, front wheel can't turn, all mold together under chassis details, but still, this is a very sharp and nice mold from tamiya, that's why i choose it for a fast built

The kit

The PE set from Crazy Modeler

Dryfit, almost perfect, except some area with 0.2mm, but thats all

only 1 area need to cover seamlines, which is the front grill and bumper lips

under chassis all mold together, no suspension, front wheel can't turn

this will be the colour, RED + GUN METAL, both custom mixed, RED is Mr Color Shine Red + Super Italian Red 1:1 ratio, while the GUN METAL is Mr Color Gun Chrome + Black 4:6 ratio

Body prime INSIDE, and lightly spray on the outside, then whitebase+surfacer at 3:1 ratio spray all over again the body, now it looks very opaque

Body painted with 4 Mist & 1 Wetcoat of RED, GUN METAL & 2 layer of gloss coat and wetsand with 2000

maybe because my spray booth was full with dust from paints, lots of dust sticks to the paint surface, which require me to wetsand each coat of paint

now the masking nightmare

Re: Nissan Fairlady Version Nismo

yeah...still couldn't believe Tamiya would ever produce a kit WITHOUT suspensions on such a nicely mold kit, but its pretty obvious Tamiya are cutting a lot of cost nowadays.

I specifically addressed this issue to one of the Tamiya reps at Shizuoka Hobby Show several years ago. Apparently, it wasn't the cost (it's roughly the same for fixed and steerable designs), but it had more to do with accessibility to casual modelers (and of course, easiness of building for the Masterwork Collection ).
I'm sure Tamiya got a lot of complains (I did, too!), because the front wheel of the 370Z is steerable, so at least, they learned.

Re: Nissan Fairlady Version Nismo

snail update

previously the exhaust was a bit overdone, but since its mold to the chassis, redo simply not possible, so this time i try a lighter tone for the heat stain

base is Plate Silver from mr color super metallic series, i start with a very light coat of clear blue, overlapped some clear red, then overlapped some clear yellow and lastly overlap some clear purple on those green area (result of blue overlapped by yellow since i dont want any green)

wheels are painted gloss back, then Plate Silver again, after that few light coats of smoke grey + little clear blue, but still came out brownish, then i apply pe logo & enamel black wash, nismo decal and another few light clear gloss

close up
