Outside the box beater?

Hey guys whats up? Long time no see. I have been looking for a daily driver since i sold my a4 and bike and i cant decide what to get, so i figured hey why not ask you guys. So heres the guide lines. Cheap $3000 or less. I can afford more but i may be moving so i want to keep some money stashed away and dont want any loan commitments. Second it needs to be relatively reliable and get good gas mileage 25+mpg. And third its got to have a fun factor (what that means is up to you) Some cars that i have thought about so far are late 80s BMWs because i already had one. Also so of those turbo volvos because their sleepers, and the early 2000s jetta's with the 1.8t. So come on guys throw some more ideas at me. PS im kind of drunk right now so if anything sounds funny then thats way but it sounds good to me

Thus the reason you should avoid what he'd suggest...crooked ass TD guys.

$3K? Cheap? Reliable? Fun? Good on Gas?

Re: Outside the box beater?

Hey, it's only really been ugly.

It's been mechanically reliable, and keep in mind I bought it for $600. You can find one in pretty much pristine shape for $3,000. They are great on gas. My LeBaron has gotten over 30MPG even with the 3" exhaust. They're pretty quick stock and can be made to run low 13's high 12's for very little if you wanted that. I think they're fun cars.

AS a matter of fact mine doesn't look ugly anymore, so there!

Re: Outside the box beater?

Well, if you need help locating a good one just let me know. There isn't much I don't know about them. You could look at other Turbo Mopars as well. They stuffed turbos in everything back then. The only ones that would really go over your budget would be the Maserati TC which you don't want and the Daytona Iroc R/T.

Re: Outside the box beater?

Not sure on the reliability of this one (honestly don't know). But how about a Merkur? Ugly as sin with a turbo

Re: Outside the box beater?

Mid/late ninties turbo volvo, or a Panther Platform Ford. Hell, get one of the Police Auction ones. I bet you could turn it into a hell of a sleeper, and people will get the hell outa your way when you're on the highway. I'd rock one.

Re: Outside the box beater?

I agree with the MR2... Too bad you couldnt afford a GVR-4. The Merkur would be pretty awesome, as long as it wasnt in too crappy of shape.

I have always been perplexed by the Merkur's stock O2 sensor location...

Re: Outside the box beater?

If he's looking he could afford a GVR4 or a Galant GSX as they aren't overly priced out. I'm only 2500$ or so in on my Galant.
