'62 Dodge Lancer STW 1/25

Something a little different.. I usually build only Ferraris and race cars, so this is quite challenging project for me. Finding reference material is suprisingly hard.

Anyway, my plan is to build a fully detailed '62 Dodge Lancer for a friend of mine. As some of you may know, there is no kit made of this car. I started with R&R Plymouth Valiant resin kit, which is a very poorly detailed curbside kit. Added some putty, styrene profile and bonnet from old Revell '62 Lancer GT kit and the basic body modifications were done:

Here is the rest of R&R kit, nothing really useful:

I've also started working on the interior.

Dashboard is mostly done, i took the basic shape from R&R Valiant part and made rest from sheet styrene. I also designed a small PE fret to help with some smaller details.

Door panels are sandwiched styrene, quite simple shape. Only problem was the chrome strip that had to be carved on the doorpanels:

Chassis of this car was one major issue, but i found out that Chassis plate from AMT Fireball 500 kit should be close enough to use with '62 Lancer. Only problem with that chassis is that it is very old design, so it has those ugly wire axles. I replaced molded in details, like rear axle and drive shaft with styrene plate. The front still needs the same treatment.

Fit is quite good::

Nice! I love this sort of chop-work, the very heart of modeling

Re: '62 Dodge Lancer STW 1/25

Continued working on this one. I scribed a little more accurate upholstery pattern on doorpanels:

More interior paneling:

I decided to use Revell's '68 Dart as a donor kit for the suspension parts, so to make sure that parts would fit it was natural to use front part of the frame from the Dart also. Rear wheelarches were also added:

Seats are made of Dart rear seat and R&R resin seats

Here is the whole interior and chassis put together:

Re: '62 Dodge Lancer STW 1/25

Most parts are now ready for actual building stage of this project. There is not much left from the original Valiant body. Front grille is just test fitted, but i think that i'll have to make a new design for it. Only parts that i haven't even started yet are the headllight housings.

Re: '62 Dodge Lancer STW 1/25

I finally got parts that were cast in resin.

Body is painted, polished foiled and glass is made from sheet acetate.
