Need Help - Plugs for 2000 Accord

The dealer wants $25 per plug. Advance Auto Parts has NGK platinum for $9.99, and NGK iridium for $6.99. This is for a 2000 Accord 4 cylinder.

Do I have to buy them from the dealer to get original equipment plugs, or will the platinum or iridium plugs from Advance be comparable?

The Advance clerk said iridium is supposed to be better than platinum. Is this true?

Iridium suppose to be better but I personally would go with manufacturer recommended plugs. If you are not in a hurry you can go to any online automotive parts site and buy your plugs cheap. Do not go to rockauto even though their prices sound good. Their database is very inaccurate, and you will get stuck with wrong parts. I just recently had good experience with carpartswholesale. I do not endorse them. Just telling that they gave me the right part at a discounted price. Sam

NGK/Denso IS O.E. for a Honda.

The difference in performance between plat and iridium in a street vehicle, naturally aspirated and not raced is negligible and IMO not worth the extra money.

I'm puzzled that the plat plugs are cheaper. Is that a typo? If not, they must be trying to dump a bunch of stock of iridium plugs that nobody's buying...

I think I reversed the prices. The NGK iridium is $9.99; plat is 6.99.

Actually this is for my girlfriend's car. She already bought a set of Denso double platinum for $6.99 at Advance. Are these okay even though they are aftermarket? Or, should we return the Denso and buy NGK instead?

No, actually they told me the NGK iridium is $6.99, and the platinum is $9.99. Iridium is better, so it should be higher. I guess I'll go with the NGK iridium, if they are selling it for $6.99.

Re: Need Help - Plugs for 2000 Accord

I always just put standard NGK plugs in my Accord which is the same as your girlfriends. It's what the factory put in them and that's only what should be put back in a stock engine. Having plugs that have "better spark" might only serve to mask other problems, like weak leads, or create new problems like running hotter etc and then you might be throwing money at replacing other things, because you think it cant be the plugs, because they're new.
