Re: 99 contintal the analoge clock have a light in it?

The FSM here says the clock lights with the headlights. Doesn't mention illumination adjustment.

It does say the bulb is replaceable, doesn't show that process or which bulb.

The clock needs to be removed and opened up to get at the bulb. Here's the crap part.. all the forward facing dash panels must be removed before the one that holds the clock.

«1999 Continental Table of Contents»
«Group 4: Electrical»
«Section 413-07: CLOCK/TIMEKEEPING»
«REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»

Clock

The electric clock:
  • Is an analog clock.
  • Is mounted in the instrument panel.
  • Illuminates when the headlamps are on.
  • Has a replaceable bulb.
  • Can be removed and replaced.

Removal

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

2. Remove the lower steering column cover.
  • 1 Remove the screws.
  • 2 Remove the lower steering column cover.

3. Remove the center trim panel.
  • 1 Remove the screw.
  • 2 Remove the center trim panel.

4. Remove the instrument cluster finish panel.
  • 1 Remove the screws.
  • 2 Remove the instrument cluster finish panel.

5. Disconnect the instrument cluster finish panel.
  • 1 Disconnect the electric clock.
  • 2 Disconnect the message center switch module.

6. Remove the electric clock.
  • 1 Remove the screws.
  • 2 Remove the electric clock.

Installation

1. Note:
When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 mi) or more to relearn the strategy.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Re: 99 contintal the analoge clock have a light in it?

Well, I've just finished browsing the service manual; there's no reference to the inner workings of the analog clock.

The wiring diagrams show an illumination object in the clock, but make no further mention of it.

Most likely it's 'made for Ford' by an outside supplier and not supported at the component level.

Thumbs up Re: 99 contintal the analoge clock have a light in it?

Thanks much for the clock removal info. Does anyone know the bulb number for replacement? I would like to have the new bulb before I take it apart.
