Who is the favorite at Womens Open?
Lorena Ochoa?
JiYai Shin? Yani Tseng? Earlier this year, it would have been ludicrous to think of any other player besides Ochoa as the odds on favorite in any tournament she plays. However, Lorena is not playing at her best and she is playing infrequently. Some of the "smart" money might be on Shin this weekend. She is a "fairways and greens" type of player. I just have a feeling that this course might be a little play too long for her to contend. This is not the pitch and putt course that the LPGA sees every week, which I think is her bread/butter. My money would be on Tseng. She hits it long, and if she can keep in the shortstuff, she will be near the top of the leaderboard. The sad part is that I don't think any Americans have a chance this week. Creamer - thumb injury Kerr - my pick as "Low-American" my guess 6th place Stanford - Will not overcome family issues Pressel - Playing the best of the American right now, and like Shin, this is not the typical pitch/putt golf course McPherson - First US Open since 2005, doubtful contender Lincicome - a likely missed cut, even with a weakened field And I just don't see any of the "Solheim Wannabes" (Diaz, Inkster, Stacy P, Hurst, and Jane Park) getting any points this week. Sleeper Pick amongst Americans: Brittany Lang. USWO has a lot of first time LPGA winners. |
