This is not very important. It's just for telling you that the abs circuit doesn't work, because it has encounter a problem. So if you brake on an ice surface, you will slip, that's it. You'll not crash.

Many things can cause the ABS circuit to fail, intermitently or not:
Bad contact
bad ABS speed sensor
bad ABS servo...

If it make you nervous, you can either repair it, or remove the bulb.

A Windstar without having the check engine light is not a real Windstar.

Re: abs/brake light on 2002 windstar...whats it all about?

We have a sticky post about the brake pressure switch.
This is a easy to replace part....and the part is not expensive.
I recommend that you check to see if the switch looks damp from possible leaking brake fluid.

It is normal for the level of the brake fluid in the master cylinder to drop slightly as the brake pads wear.
The fluid level sensor is set to light up the Brake and ABS lights (may depend on year) when the fluid level is just slightly below the "FULL" line.
So.....try the cheap and easy first......fluid level......verify pressure switch.

Other causes can be determined by having the ABS code(s) read.
A common cause of the ABS light is a issue with one of the wheel sensors.....they can get bumped....and be slightly too far from the exciter ring (the gear like ring with the teeth).
This problem is easy to correct.....adjust the sensor so that it is close to (but not touching) the teeth of the exciter ring.

Also double check the wire that goes the the wheel sensor.....making sure that it is intact (has not been caught and torn from its mountings or otherwise damaged).
