Help me (dirt car)

Hi guys im new here so hello nice to meet you all. now down to buisness this isnt your typical pick my car thread but I do need help decideing on a FWD manual car for oval dirt track raceing the car must remain basically stock. im looking for something that is fast but will do well in the corners 95-99 neons are popular but seem slow unless you cheat but I really want to keep my car legit so I was hopeing you guys could suggest cars that are 1 fairly cheap. 2 FWD manual. 3 quck stock with no mods 4 eaisly obtainable junk yard parts are a HUGE plus. 5 no force air inducton (no turbos/SCs) I am thinking a early 90s honda or acura would be really good maybe a celica GT? the problem with these cars are that they tend to be expensive even in non running condition anyone know if any of the early chev cavs are quick or maybe ford escorts? thanks for the help guys.

No forced induction means you aren't going to find something with that combo. I guess it depends. Are you limited to 4 cylinder and what about bolt on mods for an N/A, do the cars have to remain stock?

If you are limited to 4 Cylinder, you are basically SOL if you need something with all those requirements. Find a 3000gt SL that would be fun, but Im not so sure about readiness of parts... I dont really know much about the aftermarket or the availability of parts for those.

SVT Focus? A little new for that kind of thing though.

Aren't Celicas popular for that type of racing too? I think I remember reading that somewhere. What about a CRX?

Talk to Tony in the 88-91 Civic/CRX section. He used to dirt track race an old civic.

Re: Help me (dirt car)

ive heard of but never seen anyone run a celica im sure they would be great but to expensive.the thing about this is this is a whole Class of cars I would only be competing with cars in the FWD 4 cyclinder class so its not like anyone has anything amazeing you see some neons some grand prix 4 cylinders first gen talons few hondas etc right now im leaning twords a first gen talon... this is my first ever race car im 19 and dont have a unlimited budget thats why im leaning twords this class of cars instead of a RWD class which cost much much more to get started it seems but who knows maybe ill find a good deal on a mustang and just go that route...

Re: Help me (dirt car)

well I went to a bigger track here in MN over the weekend and it deff seems like hondas are pretty good with neons being pretty competive as well I bought a 1996 Saturn SL2 with a knock in the lower end for 200 bucks. the cars in pretty decent shape so im hopeing to fix the knock and see how it compares to a neon with only 124 horse power im not sure just how good it will be. I remember this forum a couple years ago and it was super busy it seemed like anyone know of other good forums? racing forums specifically?
