CAR STARTS BUT DIES IN ABOUT 5sec.
I have a 91 caprice, its has a 95 impala motor tranny and the whole wiring harness installed in the car. It was running for about a week now. NOw my problem is it will start but wont keep running unless i fether the gas. So here is what happened, I changed the passenger side flange gasket, it was leaking. Put everything back, or atleast thats what i thought. I forgon to hook up the passenger side air sensor. I got in the car and drove it for almost a mile and then it started sputtering and didnt want to accelerate, every time i gave it gas it started to die. It ended up cutting off and i parked. I towed it home the next day. I went and looked at the wiring that didnt get pluged in and it was a little melted. The end that connects to the exaust was melted but the other end didnt. I hooked it up and tried to start it, did the same thing but ran for about 15sec this time. So i figured i might as well change the fuel filter. That didnt do any thing but make it so i could fether the gas enough to keep the car barley running. Now im stuck on what to do next. I was thinking about going a getting a new sensor for the passenger exaust. Is there anyone who might know what my problem might be? If so please help.

Re: CAR STARTS BUT DIES IN ABOUT 5sec.
What sensor, o2? What flange gasket exhaust? Won't idle, unless you keep your foot on the gas? How does it run on the road? Fuel pressure ok, any check engine lite on?

Re: CAR STARTS BUT DIES IN ABOUT 5sec.
I suspect that you replaced the EXHAUST FLANGE GASKET...
you then forgot to put back the O2 sensor connector which got damaged.. with a meter find the bad fuse[s]....then replace the O2 sensor and or the connector that was melted... |
