Doors squeaking/grinding??

I have this odd problem. The rear driver side door squeaks when opening and closing. It's gotten worse. The rubbing seems to be coming from inside of the door -- maybe behind the door panel. The noise is coming somewhere from the sliding metal 'track' -- EDIT: the manual calls this the 'detent' rod -- the metal rod connecting the frame to the inside of the door -- the rod that runs horizontal and is located below the window -- the detent rod is located between the two 'hing mounting bolts' which bolt the door on to the frame.

Anyone ever get this problem?

I'm guessing that involes taking the door panels off and fixing somehow.

I'm hoping that it's not a sign of the frame rotting away. I'm hoping that it's not indicative of the frame weeping -- i've got a bit of rust but i'd like to think that it's relatively minor. I'd like to think that the rust is a cosmetic problem. (a body shop guy explained to me that the car was undercoated with a good protective coating so the undercarriage is good)

Eventually i'll take it to my mechanic and let him look at it.

Re: Doors squeaking/grinding??

You might try some lube on the sliding metal track to get rid of the grinding. The only other thing I can think of for the grinding would be if the bottom edge of the door was rubbing against the body. My old hatch had that issue, but it didn't make any noise.

The squeaking is might be the hinge, or it might be the small pin the metal track is attached to. I don't know anything about the hinge, so I can't help you there, but the pin can be gotten out with a small hammer. Lube it up and put it back in.

There aren't any moving parts inside the door associated with the opening and closing of the door, so I don't think you need to remove the door panel.

Thanks for the reply, Thrill.

I rode by my mechanic's place. He confirmed my thoughts that this was a problem with the door -- a relatively minor problem. And he did not think that it was any indication that the frame was weeping or sagging -- a very major problem.
