145 for a power steering hose.....

jeeze.

changed my rack this weekend, and in the process, one of the fittings to the rack is fubar, O rong inside the fitting is shot, and it leaks there.

cut off fitting drill out old tube, braze on a 3 inche tube and make up the rest with 3/8 tubing.

so i call ford to find out pricing on a hose. since im not crazy about my hillbilly engineering.

145 for a hose from the pump to the cooler.

junkyard here i come.

Re: 145 for a power steering hose.....

You could check Rock Auto or Y2kFORD.
Worth checking to see what their prices are.

High pressure hose for a 3.8L 1996 - 1998, range from $30.79 to $35.89 on rockauto's website
List price for one for 1996-1998 through FORD is $163.94, Y2KFORD has it for $127.87

For 1999-2003, for 3.8L, FORD list is 73.82, Y2KFORD has it for $57.58

Re: 145 for a power steering hose.....

Over on the engineering & technical forum a few weeks ago, Curtis73 mentioned (post #2) that power steering systems can be pressurised at up to 2500 psi. Came as a complete surprise to me, but I've never owned a power steering vehicle. Presumably that goes some way to explaining the high cost of the hoses. I hope your makeshift repair is up to the job.

Re: 145 for a power steering hose.....

checked everywhere.

no where makes it as an aftermarket.

its not the high pressure (pump to rack) its the rack around LH fender, up to the cooler.

checked all stores, rockauto, etc.

best price is silverstate ford at 111 plus shipping.

www.directfordparts.com

no luck.

i thought i found it on amazon, troy ford in oh claimed they had it instock for 50. called the parts counter to see if they had it, and they said not anylonger, they were clearing out stock.

i think the yard is my best bet. but i gotta find a winnie with the engin out already to get to it.

im worried about my ghetto fix mainly becasue of heat.

unfortunatly not, its a return

its the male threaded thing on the rack, then eventually is just a hose clamp.

the repair is temporary. it works now, the return is nto really any pressure. plan was to get the ford part as i cant find aftermarket, but i refuse to pay more for a hose than i did for the reman'd rack. :lol
