Re: Huge problem help please!

I will get 1 tomorrow, but when i first put that engine in. I didn't have that sensor hooked up, and it never misfired or anything. That's why i was asking, if that, what it really was.

Re: Huge problem help please!

I know there is dual chart for DTC 43. One being the knock sensor in the ESC system, and i believe the other relates to a EGR system problem.

However, since it ran okay for a bit then slowly got worse, it's got to be something electronic since resetting the ECM cured the problem before the ECM started realizing there is a problem again.

Re: Huge problem help please!

Yeah that's what i'm thinking. I reseted the computer again, so there's no codes. got the sensor fixed up there good, so if the check engine light comes on. It should pin point that problem. Sounds like a EGR Valve problem?

Only way possible would be the vacuum control solenoid. An EGR itself would be right away. Really sounds as if it's something that after a while the ECM cannot calibrate a change for.

Re: Huge problem help please!

I got code 32, and 54 today after driving for a while, that's without the Knock sensor falling off or anything like that. Only notice able thing, Gas mileage is gotten extremly poor for me lmao.

Re: Huge problem help please!

32 on mine is a EGR circuit failure I believe it should be the same across the board. Not sure what the 54 is about tho, I think it deal with the ECM somewhere.

Re: Huge problem help please!

Code 32 - BARO Circuit Low - Barometric Pressure Sensor Circuit Low.

Code 32¥ - EGR - Vacuum switch shorted to ground on startup, switch
not closed after the ECM has commanded the EGR for a specific
period of time or the EGR solenoid circuit is open for a specific
period of time. Replace EGR Valve.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Code 54 - Fuel Pump - Low Fuel Pump Voltage. Sets when fuel
pump voltage is less than 2 volts when reference pulses are being
received.

Code 54¥ - M/C Solenoid - Check All M/C Solenoid and ECM wires
and connections. Replace with new Unit.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Is what i looked up, not really sure where I should start at to get this problems solved. Idle is alittle rough.

Re: Huge problem help please!

Start by checking all of the thin vaccum hoses(if any are damaged, replace them, if one isnt connected to anything, then find out where it goes)
Then check the wires going to the EGR solenoid, make shure they arent damaged, and that the connection is clean.
Also check the Fuel Pump Relay(in engine compartment infront of driver) make shure that neither it nore the wires going to it are damaged.

Re: Huge problem help please!

Also, since both of these issues are electrical, you might want to check and be shure that:
battery terminals are clean,
make shure the connection is clean where the wire that goes from the negative battery wire to the frame right by the battery is clean,
the engine grounds are clean,
as well as anything I may have missed...
you can get an arisol can of electrical connection cleaner at a hardware/autoparts store...

Re: Huge problem help please!

Found out what the 54 was,the fuel line going to the canister was off.

Really stumped on the code 32.
I checked all grounds and none of the wires damaged.i Checked the voltage going to the EGR Selonoid, The vacuum on it, is working correctly. I was told to see if the valve was working correctly to push it up, and hold my thumb over it. An see if it will stay up, if it goes down. The EGR valve isn't any good. I don't know how true is that.

Re: Huge problem help please!

First of all, since you are already working on this stuff, you might want to go to an autoparts store and buy a new Charcole Canister Filter(possibly the most commonly overlooked item of standard maintinance...Ive seen two different filters that can be used in this application, one looks like the origional(to me it looks like fiber-glass fiber) and the other looks more like a mesh; I would use the one that looks like the origional because I dont think the other one would be as effective as a filter), a new PCV valve and a new rubber grommit(over the years they break down and dont seal like they used to).

Did you check ALL the vaccum hoses for cracks, cuts and breaks?
Open up your HAYNES manual and go to the section about the engine/emissions control systems(I think it is right after the trouble code explinations) and go to the part about the EGR system...then READ EVERYTHING IN THAT SECTION. It explain how to test it, what to look for, how to clean, and basically everything you need to know about it...
