Camry hesitated rough running at 1st start

Model: Camry, 2001

Problem: First start in the morning, there was a 4 second hesitated rough running, then everything went back to normal. I sent the car to a garage, they spent more than 2 weeks trying to fix the car. Through trial and error they replaced one thing at a time to see what would fix the problem. They could not pinpoint the problem until they replaced the following parts. First they replaced the spark plugs and cord set, then they replaced fuel injectors. However, after they replaced the spark plugs and cord set, the problem became worse. After they replaced idle valve assy. (aka throttle), they said it was fixed. The people at the garage stated that the first 2, the spark plugs and cord set, were nescessary. However, I do not believe that the parts are nescessary because, they did not fix the problem but made the problem worse. The problem was not fixed until they replaced the idle valve assy. They seemed to just be poking around until they 'fixed' the problem. My car was in their garage for more than two weeks.

I believe that the only problem was the throttle. However, they are charging me for every single part they replaced. Which totals over $1800.

So, if anyone could reply to this question:

Tough to say what caused your problem. I never let anyone start throwing parts at any of my cars. At some point they should have stopped your ticket. Lesson learned!

I can swallow the plugs and wires since they have are scheduled change items anyway. The Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) gets stuck in my throat. As soon as the throttle plate opens the IAC valve is out of the picture at least for your problem. You won't notice a hesitation until the throttle plate opens. And your hesiation only happened on the first start...I'd be jumpin on someones desk. At this point I doubt they could install the old IAC but they should at least deduct the standard clock hour labor rate for an IAC valve if not the cost of both the valve and labor. If you get no satisfaction file a report with the BBB.
