99 Corolla AC just stopped
Helllo again, Its been a while since I have posted, thank you to all those who have helped me in the past!
But now a new problem! For a while now when we run the AC the car makes a funny sound, like a growling/knocking type sound. It would somtimes makes the sound sometimes not. But lately its been everytime. However , today while going to the doctor we noticed the air was no longer blowing cold air, so we turned it off. We waited a few mins and turned it on again and when we did , the car stalled out and quit. We had to turn the AC OFF before we could start the car again. Ok any ideas? What would we need to replace to fix this? Thank! Tabatha Van Meter |

Re: 99 Corolla AC just stopped
It sounds like the A/C compressor is dead (locked up).
They range from $200 to over $500 from places like Checker Auto Parts. It will be fairly expensive if you have a shop replace the compressor, evacuate the A/C system (highly recommended), and refill the system. Good shops will also replace the receiver/dryer and the expansion valve. When an A/C compressor makes noise, then locks up, it usually means that it came apart inside. Metal particles from the compressor will get pumped through the rest of the A/C system plugging the receiver/dryer and the expansion valve. That's the reason for replacing those parts and evacuating the system. That's also the reason for a fairly large bill when it's done. Anyway, good luck. |
