AC compressor does not engage 00 intrigue

It just doesn't engage anymore. The climate control ac button lights up fuses are good. Ac oil leaked out during the transmission change, It also has a pressure leak so freeon goes out.

I thought the AC compressor wasn't getting power so I used a tester on the wire clip for the ac compressor and a volt meter and saw nothing.

Sounds like self-protection is in work? If you don't have enough refrigerant, hence enough initial pressure in the system to close the pressure switch, the compressor clutch won't engage. Probably time to visit an AC shop.

Yes that what I thought of after reading this http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...ght=compressor the car was made with some nice safety features.

Re: AC compressor does not engage 00 intrigue

I fix a/c every night--specialize in GM systems- That V-5 compressor you have is known for shaft seal leaks and body o-ring leaks- is front of compressor oily? is belly oily? I reseal all those- taking compressor off and breaking it down on my bench- then clean all seals and put in new o-rings and a new double lip seal shaft seal- works great- done maybe 2 or 300 V-5's in last five years. So to play the percentages- I'd say your compressor has a 90% chance of what is causing your loss of refrigerant. You can add but it will probably be gone in 3 or 4 days....seen it many times...

V-5 is in the 3.8l, right? Where do you get the parts to do it? I have a 3.5l shortstar - can those be done too? Special tools?

Re: AC compressor does not engage 00 intrigue

I feel most of the compressor wear on these cars come from running too much. Anytime the car is running, with outside temp above 38 degrees, the compressor runs. I shut mine off when it is not needed, I think everyone should do this, would extend the life of the compressor. It seems from reading this forum that compressors go out too much.

I didn't want to steal this thread, just had to speak my opinion

You are talking about a 9 or 10 year old car (depending on when the OP bought the car). Compressors, as well as other parts, tend to fail over time. Not sure overuse is an excuse in this case.

Re: AC compressor does not engage 00 intrigue

The ac compressor is good its holding pressure I brought a gasket kit from AZ after noticing I lost the 1 of the 2 quarter sized washer gaskets. I took it off put two new washers tightened the AC compressor lines back up, filled oil through the top and bolt back up again and added Freon. I still have the hot cold vent issue. And adding oil to the clutch its been quite.

The ac compressor will engage when defrost or recirculation is pushed I believe, I don’t want it on because it makes the fog worse robs power and gas.
