1991 Camry DX window problem.
Hello all. I've been going to a mechanic to work on the things that my car needs done, and today we tried to tackle the window. What happens is, the passenger window stopped going down about a year and a half ago... it would randomly go down after that, but sometimes when I would roll it down a little, I couldn't roll it down anymore, but I could roll it up.
So anyway, we went to a junkyard and got another passenger side window motor/framework. We put it on and it didn't fix anything... the window still doesn't go down, so we took it off and started toying around with it. We found out that the motor only reacts to when you press the button to roll the window up, but down doesn't work. This was the same for both the motor we got from the junkyard and the old motor that was in it. We tested all the connections to see if they were getting power and the only thing we found fishy was the connector (it's a two pin connector... one pin is going horizontal, the other is vertical) to the actual motor for the window.. one pin only got power for going down, not up, then when we tested the other pin, it got power for up and down (and this was the pin for rolling up the window). I'm not really sure how to explain this more fully, since I'm not really literate with cars at all, but should I take both motors to get tested or is the issue in the wiring? The guy that is working on my car said I could buy one of the motors at Advanced Auto Parts for pretty cheap, so I'm wondering if by some lame chance we have two motors that are dead.. any help would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Re: 1991 Camry DX window problem.
It is common for the wires running through the doors to get dinged up. Check the wires in the door and the ones in running from the door to the body in a tube. They often get frayed and damaged.

Re: 1991 Camry DX window problem.
We did check how the wires looked cosmetically and physically with a voltage meter, but maybe there's a small tear somewhere that we missed. I think I'm still going to get the window motor tested to see if it's putting out the correct power.
