97/98 Windstar Rear Wheel Bearing Question

My "98" windstar was actually built in Mar 97, so it has the old-style serviceable wheel bearings, rather than the bolt on hub type found after 8/97. My driver's side rear bearing has developed a lot of end play, so I'm thinking it needs replacing. My Haynes manual says to take the hub to a machine shop once you have it off the car to have the new races pressed in, and the Ford manual says to use the Ford bearing remover/replacer. I did the bearings on the passenger side, but I didn't replace the outer races since they didn't appear worn, so I've never removed those.

So, my question is, has anyone done a rear bearing job on these serviceable bearings, and if so, can the races be removed with a Brass drift or similar tool, or do they really have to be pressed in/out? Any tips?

Thanks...
