Unhappy The Horn is Stuck On

Wow, yet another problem with my 85 !!!

At first the horn was dead. No beep. When this happened before I would fix it by removing and reisnserting the horn relay, down by the fuse box. This time the horn started blasting when I started to pull on the horn relay. Pushed it back in and horn got quiet again.

Later, went out and took horn relay all the way out, renisnerted it, and the thing started blasting away full volume again, stuck on.

Currently have the relay out so I can drive in quiet.

Any chance the horn relay is bad this time? The only other thing I can think of is the wiring / connectors on the receptacle the relay plugs into.

Re: The Horn is Stuck On

sounds like the relay to me, internal contacts are arced together, if you have a multimeter you can test it and you can test the relay base on the car. You should get and O.L. on the relay Normal open contacts if it is good. Also you should have no power on the relay base coil leads. If there is power then your problem is elsewhere.

I agree with patbeechermail and jcat, and I suggest you get a new/used relay soon because driving without a horn can be dangerous. It's one of those things you miss when you don't have it hooked up and need it. I ran my 85 for a time without the horns hooked up and regreted it one day when I nearly got in an accident.

Re: The Horn is Stuck On

I bought a new relay for $4. It fixed the problem.

Thanks, everyone.
