RB25DET Datsun 240z

I want to build a replica of a friend's 1971 Datsun 240z with an RB25DET drivetrain swap.

This build will be similar to one I did a few years ago: Porsche 993TT brakes, Recaro seats, roll bar, Watts for Panasports, solder for mandrel exhaust, etc.
I am using the Hasegawa 240z kit body/chassis. Need to cut the hood, not too excited about that The paint is GoGreen, and testors has it. I have some BOVs, and turbos, fmic's to play with, but I hope that the "top-Half" engine looks convincing. LHD is from the Fujimi kit.

ride height:

Some videos I took of this beast, it is quick!

Re: RB25DET Datsun 240z

Coooool, I'm diggin' this one. Beautiful car, great engine, and it looks like a terrific installation. (I'm planning to do something very similar myself- any further pics you'd care of that engine would certainly be appreciated.)

What are you planning to use for the engine? Other than the badge, it looks alot like an RB26- if you wanted to go full engine, maybe Gio's forthcoming transkit would be a good option?

I'll keep an eye on this one.

Re: RB25DET Datsun 240z

mocking up the RB. I'll modify the timing cover to look like the Rb25, and I'll "massage" the RB26 intake manifold to look more like the Greddy one used.
The stock exhaust manifold heat sheild was also used, and the kit-supplied piece is great!

Turbo help:
I've got this bag of turbo parts from scalemotorsports? years ago. Problemis I don't know how to make a turbo from them. They don't look like the larger turbo in the picture. What part is what?

Re: RB25DET Datsun 240z

I am slowly making a bunch of engine bay parts.
The 1:1 has a Greddy intake manifold with a larger MAF.
I used a RB26 manifold, smoothed it cut off the piping.
made some runners from an old 240z exhaust manifold since they are squared off.
Injectors are from an SR kit
I'll fashion the maf from the charcoal canistr/emissions thingy from a 280zx kit.

Re: RB25DET Datsun 240z

Added the "Greddy" casting for the emblem:

After some sanding/painting:

I shot the Testors "Go Green" on the valve cover/ engine bay followed by clear and I am pleased with the result:

The exhaust manifold heat shield got some chrome silver and the spark cover was bmf'd.
On the front cover the RB25 has a "bump" opposite the silver vtc solenoid thingy, so I cut a circular pice and blended it on, looks perfect imho!
Added some pulleys for the water/crank/alt:

With the body on:

Next is the injector/wiring on the intake...battery and it's wiring
