|
don't want to get ripped off....
i'm buying a used '94 3000gt base with 170,000 on engine and 5,000 on clutch. not really familiar with imports, so what are problems to look for so i don't make a bad purchase.

Check the oil, make sure it is a nice tranparent color and rub some off the dipstick on your hands to feel for any metal flakes. Listen for engine noises such as a bad bearing, or any knocking sound (although you are likely to hear a tick tick sound which is the lifters and is completely normal). Other than that give it an agressive drive and just listen for anything out of the ordinary with the radio off. See how it drives and also check if they have receipts for maintaining the car. Check and see when/if the last 60k tuneup was done. If it was done at 120k it will need to be done agian here in 10k more miles which is not a very simple task if you have no prior experience on doing such things.
