1996 Villager A/C not working
I have a 1996 villager and the A/C stopped working.
The A/C button shows that it is on (LED is on) But I tried to figure it out and this is what I know. The fuses are OK. The Radiator fan does not start when the button the A/C is turned on The Compressor does not "click" on nor does engine idle change. i checked the fuses - OK, I felt the relays as the button is being pressed on and off and did not feel any of the relays clicking on. what would cause the A/C to stop working? It worked during the winter becasue it defrosted the windows well. thanks |

Re: 1996 Villager A/C not working
There is a low pressure switch that will prevent the clutch from turning on if the refrigerant charge is low.
You can purchase a cheap gauge along with a can of freon, and see if your pressure is low, then add a can and see if the clutch engages and the A/C blows cold air. You might be okay with just adding a can of freon, if the gauge says your pressure is good, you may have a bad low pressure switch easy to change for around 10 bucks. First step, check your freon charge pressure |

Re: 1996 Villager A/C not working
Sounds like a freon leak. I had that on my 2000 estate and turned out to be a rear ac line leak at a joint. The warranty company would not cover it because the jerk tech said it was "corrosion" and the warr will reject any claim of corrosion. The leak was in the fender area away from road grime. The stealership wanted $750 for the repair. I was able to find a ford parts supplier online to buy the new lines for $250 and did it myself. Of course you need to do it right so study up or open your wallet.
What concerns me though, is the freon leaked into the cabin, not to the outside. What are the potential health issues? |
