91 signal lights and heater blower

Can anyone help? My wife and recently purchased a 91 Tempo for our daughter. Today the signal lights and the heater blower quit working. I looked at all the fuses under the dash. There is a relay fuse that I did not check with a meter. Where would I look to see why the two things quit working? Another thing now it seems to idel poorly, are they interlinked? Thank you to anyone that is willing to help. I know nothing about the Tempo.

Re: 91 signal lights and heater blower

Welcome to AF!

First things first. Checked the connections at the battery and make sure they are clean and tight. If there is any corrosion it can be neutralized with baking soda and water. Then, rinse well. For the turn signals check a 10 amp fuse marked "meter". If the fuse is good listen for a clicking sound when the turn signals are activated. If you don't hear anything the flasher is probably bad.

The heater blower uses a 30 amp fuse marked "blower". Then there is a relay after that. If the fuse is good run a hot wire directly to the blower motor. If they motor operates then the relay or the switch is bad.

I don't think the idle problem is related unless the connections at the battery are very poor. A car of this age should have new sparkplugs and wires installed. Also, the engine air filter and fuel filter should be changed. Try a bottle of fuel injection cleaner in a tank of gas. Check the vacuum hoses on the engine for a leak or a missing hose. Replace the PCV valve. If it still idles poorly replace the IAC (idle air control) valve. It's on top of the throttle body and looks like a small motor with a flange on the end.

Re: 91 signal lights and heater blower

Thank you for replying, I have a couple quick questions. First thing relay on the heater motor "where might I find it"? When checking fuses 6/1/09 I did not see any that where bad, also did not pull out a 30 amp either. Can the flasher relay go out just that fast? The hazard lights work. Thanks again for your time.
