Rear Seat Back Removal

How do you remove the rear seat back on a 1998 Malibu. My friend puched the red button in the trunk, and now the remote or key will not open the trunk.

Re: Rear Seat Back Removal

You will have to remove the lower seat cushion itself. Pull up on it and there are 2 hook clamps under the seat. Use a screw driver and push them back while pulling up. That will remove the lower portion of the seat giving you access to the bottom of the upper portion.

Though I have an easier solution. Remove the speaker. It is four 7mm bolts. The cover on the rear deck just pops up. Pop it up in the front because there are two little plastic hooks that hook into the deck. They slide right out. Then you can reach in with either your arm or a coat hanger and then pull the string handle. They are on the driver side of the vehicle. Then the seat will flap down and you will have access to the trunk.

This will only take you max 3 minutes. It's much easier then removing the lower portion of the seat.
