2004 Smog Help

Ok so trying to get my 04 smogged, when we take it to the smog station the guy is telling me that it won't read the computer. Just installed new battery and he says I need to drive a consistent 100 miles to get the battery to reset and make it possible to read the computer. Has anyone heard of this, or know what is going on and why it will not read the computer? I have had this happen two places? Thanks for the help.

Re: 2004 Smog Help

the fact that he says it "can't read the computer" is a little puzzling. if his machine has no comms with the vehicles computer, i would reccomend checking the cig lighter fuse in the underhood fuse block, the OBDII port is on that same fuse. if it is just reading "not ready", then he is right about needing to drive it, but it may take less than 100 miles, or more.

Re: 2004 Smog Help

The smog station is correct. Anytime the power or battery is disconnected the computer has to reset or relearn its memory of the vehicle drive cycles. This usually takes anywhere from 50-300 miles depending on the vehicle or operating conditions.
