Transaxle code 42--speed sensor circuit?

95 camry, 4 bannger, auto trans is slipping real bad. I'm getting code 42, which relates to the speed sensor circuit. I'm trying to follow the manual to check the circuit but need some help.

the manual says, "disconnect the cruise control ECU and PPS connectors."

Can some one point out where I can find these connectors?

Anyone out there had this code before and fixed a slipping tranny? If so, how did you fix it? Thanks

There are Toyota factory service manuals stickied at the top of this forum's home page, that are available for free downloading. I would download the generation 3 manual. It should help you with your questions.

Re: Transaxle code 42--speed sensor circuit?

I've looked through the manuals, that is where I am getting my info. I found the cruise control ecu but I was having trouble figuring out what the PPS was. I have since come to the conclusion that the PPS is the Park/Neutral positions switch, which I found also. It's the abbreviations that are killing me.

Now I have to get to the combination meter behind the gauges to test the speed sensor circuit. I am just wondering if I am wasting my time because I think my tranny is bad, but I don't want to R&R my tranny just to find out it is a bad ECM or sensor, or combination meter.

Thanks for pointing out the manuals though. They are real helpful
