94 SSE Front End Vibration at shift points

94 SSE non-supercharged 160K Automatic Trans

When the car shifts 1-2, 2-3 I feel a vibration similar to a wash board type vibration from a road surface. It only lasts about 1 second and then goes away.

I can’t say it does it all the time, mostly after a few miles of driving. The same is true for the type of acceleration. It is more pronounced on a hard acceleration but not always.

Anyone got any ideas…motor/transmission mounts….axles…..and god forbid the transmission.

Without an onsite road test it is impossible to pinpoint this, maybe a slight misfire under load, or as you said motor mount, inner cv joint, a shudder in the trans itself.

Re: 94 SSE Front End Vibration at shift points

Here is what I did just for kicks. I sprayed all the motor/transmission mounts with a silicon spray. I found three mounts, right side (from front), bottom left front and right side rear on the bottom of the engine. Did I miss any?

I also sprayed anything that looked like a rubber body mount or looked like it should be sprayed after a long winter.

It had an effect, the vibration is not gone but it is a lot less. Interesting. Still think its the motor mounts. Maybe I will replace them.

Thanks

Gary
