since this is 2005 vehicle I'm not sure BUT this code means the solenoid circuit or solenoid is electrically defective..

check the fuses esp. eng fuse 1,10amp....

then locate the evap purge solenoid on top of engine under plastic cover check resistance/connector..

locate the cannister vent valve solenoid and also check same .. this should be at the gas tank charcoal cannister area..

dtc 0449 is created because the pcm/vcm/computer is getting improper feedback electricaly from these coils...
open , shorted ,,excessive current ..etc....

you should have other codes if this ckt is not working....as this will create an improper fuel tank pressure/vacuum...

Re: 0449 code

There isn't actually a gas cap code, there is an "Evap. system large leak" (p0440). If that one sets without first setting a small or medium leak code, then most of the time it is the gas cap being lose and causing it. Your vent code is entirely separate from a "gas cap" code.

Re: 0449 code

That comes on when the p0440 is set, I'm not sure of the other criteria for it, but I would assume it is that comes on if there is p0440 but not the small or medium in history codes.

p0449 doesn't always mean the solenoid is bad (but usually does), it could be as simple as the connector is not connected. I've seen that on a few vehicles that had been wrecked and the body shop guy didn't get around to reconnecting it. Check the resistance of the solenoid and make sure it's getting power and ground when it should be on. You need a scan tool to command it on, otherwise you can disconnect the PCM connector and check for continuity in the wires. If that all checks out, you'll need to make sure the PCM is giving the signal when it should be.

your correct its an expensive part for what you get....made in mexico for 2 bucks...

using a meter to ensure voltage to /resistance of coil would be a good way to check with whats wrong electrically..
