Adding the adjustable brake bais setup to a GTRA? Pics? Easy? Help?

Rumor has it that the GTRA usus the same pedal setup as the GTS and GTWC and that they originally had the brake bias control knob, but instructors didn't want the students futzing with it so they removed it all.

I've heard it's plug & play, but I've never dealt with a brake bias controller so I'm not sure how it works and how it installs.

Anyone have pics to show me?

Kel if you read this I saw you added it to your car.

Thanks,
Brian

Brian, to add the bias controller all you need to do is buy a Tilton bias control knob/cable kit. This only cost me around $80 NZ so will be US$40 - 50 I expect.

Fitment is really straight forward. All you need to do is decide where you are going to mount the adjustment knob quadrant and drill the required holes etc. Then attach the end of the cable to the bias rod on the peddle box.

As you have seen I mounted mine in the std Panoz switch panel and this has worked OK so far.

I highly recommend taking the pedal box out when you do this job though and doing a couple of other things;

1. Replace the master cylinder for the rear brakes with a 1" bore cylinder to replace the 1 1/8" bore cylinder fitted to our school cars. This will help to reduce the tendency to lock front tyres. The 1" rear cylinder is standard fitment for the GTS.

2. Set up the pedal box exactly as described in the GTS manual on page 49.

I did all of the above and have found the brakes to be way way better than when I received the car. I have yet to touch the bias adjustment when racing as the brakes have been spot on. The bias adjustment will be required though for wet weather racing particularly as fuel load changes.

On another note, the Tilton pedal box in our car is set up to have a hydraulic clutch master cylinder and pedal bolt right in. I see that Wire Wheel have some pedals and master cylinders for sale. This makes for a really easy conversion for those wanting to go this way. Seems as though the Tilton slave cylinder may not be so reliable though so an internal one may work out better.

Kel.

No worries... not in any hurry. If you get a chance over the next few weeks snap one for me if you could. I'm not touching the car until this winter... time to drive the crap out of it.
