I have a 1961 Impala 4dr sedan that im having problems with connecting the starter. I have 2 wires(green,purple) that i know they go to the starter, but dont know what posts they go on.. Can anyone help?

Re: Nees help with gm starter wire's(color codes).
On the older cars with a resistor wire ignition, they connect a wire from the "R" small post on the starter to the (+) post on the ignition coil. this allows for more voltage at start up. Look for this wire at the coil and check for continuity.
The other wire should go to the (S) terminal on the starter for solenoid actuation. This wire will only be hot in the "start" mode. Check it with a test light. Hope this helps.
