H.I.D ?'s

Okay today I installed my H.I.D conversion kit and it was pretty simple..thankgod.

I used the double sided tape that it came with and mounted them in a pretty good spot since there is hardly no room for anything under the hood.I also used 1 zip tie per ballast as an extra precaution incase the tape ever fell apart.

I went driving around..maybe a 10 min. drive with the H.I.D's on so that I can show them to my brother.I then popped the hood and showed him where I mounted them and stuff.I touched the ballast and it was VERY hot!

I never owned H.I.D's before so is this normal?? I didn't know who else to ask.And will my zip ties that I stuck on melt?

How long will the H.I.D's last? I don't plan on driving with them on during the day.

thanks alot

-Christina

Re: H.I.D ?'s

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me those are in projectors! when people dont put them in projectors i just want to open their hood and rip them out, especially when they are in trucks that shine the light right through the windows. and please say they are no more than 6000k, anything higher than that actually produces less usable light than halogens and are more annoying to on coming drivers.

anyways, they should not get real hot, they do warm up a bit but not a lot. and how long they last depends on what brand the HID's are. if they are philips which are the very best you can get, they should last for 1000's of hours and turn colors only slightly through out the life of the bulb, if they are pretty much any other brand they will start to turn higher kelvins at about 100 to 200 hours. im guessing you have the latter of the two so look for about 100 to 200 hours of the color you have then they will start to turn more and more blue.

Re: H.I.D ?'s

keep in mind they are in the engine bay which its self gets very hot, just make sure they are not close to the engine. i mounted my ballasts on the front part of the frame that goes on top of the radiator and fan.
