Front wheel bearing???
A few days ago a problem developed out of nowhere on the front of my 2002 Montana. I started hearing a droning sound at around 30-40 mph, from what sounds like the passenger side. Over the last few days it has gotten a little worse. The best way I can describe it is that it sounds like a stiff rubber mudflap riding against the tire. The sound can be heard at all speeds now, and all the way to complete stopping of the wheels. When I rotate the wheels by hand, the passenger side seems to be rather stiff, but no drag from the brakes. I'm taking a guess and saying a possible wheel bearing??? Has anyone else had a similar problem, that can point me in the right direction??
Thanks. |

Re: Front wheel bearing???
.
On my 2003 Buick Cross-Over "run about" vehicle, its front wheels started to hum. As time went on, its humming sound got louder and louder. Especially at faster ground speeds. My auto mechanic replaced one wheel bearing. Took for a test drive and said the other wheel bearing was gone as well. Thus, both front wheel bearings were replaced. That was 2 years ago. And since that time, that vehicle runs (and sounds) like a brand new vehicle. If the one wheel bearing is gone on your van, odds are the other wheel bearing will need to be replaced as well. For my 2003 Buick, it was well worth replacing both wheel bearings with the "High Quality" repacements - for $900. BTW: Do ask for High Quality wheel bearing replacements. A few hundred more dollars but well worth it - especially if you plan to keep your vehicle for many more years. Hope this helps... . |
