Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

My modelling hit a brick wall recently and I just couldn't get settled into any project. So, I decided to do a quick out of the box build to try to kick-start myself. I built this curbside.

Revell kit
Zero primer
Zero Bleu Tour de France
Zero pre-thinned clearcoat
Polished with Finishers compounds & The Treatment wax
Kit chrome stripped and replaced with Alclad II
Crazy Modeller metal badges, E-Jan emblem.

I'm not going to beat up on Revell simply for being Revell but I'm not entirely happy with their product. It would seem to me that their kits are targeted/priced for the 'lower' end of the market - junior modellers and those, like me, with limited skills & experience. So why is the engineering & moulding often so tricky to deal with? I don't mind simplified, or even crude, suspension (if it can't be seen, fine!) but I would like it to fit together precisely and unambiguously. I would also like side windows that fit properly. And I hate those 2-piece wheels! Having said that, it was quite an enjoyable build and I'm very happy with the end result. Bleu Tour de France is a lovely colour and I think it suits the Scaglietti perfectly.

Jon.

Re: Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

Nice job! I really like the color combo! I built a couple of these and I didn't have any fitment issues with the side windows. Just chassis and hood warpage.

Re: Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

Love the colour. It's still quite vibrant even over grey primer. Good job.

Re: Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

Very neat build

I am curious, what paint/colors you used for the interior?

Re: Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

Thank you all for your generous comments!
The chassis & hood were warped, but only by a small amount. The left hand side windows have a curvature that's tighter than the car body. I didn't notice this until too late. And both sides were very difficult to line up so the door mirrors fitted precisely. Oh well, it doesn't notice too much...
Klutz, the interior colours were mixes of my own. I used Citadel acrylics. The cream is (I thnk) Bleached Bone + Codex Grey, and the grey is (I think) Chaos Black + Shadow Grey + Regal Blue. I'm suprised by how much of a blue tint that mix has in many of the photographs - if you look at the overhead photo the dashboard in that pic is a pretty good representation of how the clolour looks to the human eye in daylight, a likd of slate grey with a blue tinge. I chose those interior colours simply because I think cream has a luxurious & classy feel to it, and the grey compliments both the cream and the exterior colour.

Thanks again for your comments but please feel free to give contsructive criticism and/or advice - I've not been building kits long and I truly value the opinions of those more skilled and experienced.
Cheers,
Jon.

Re: Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

Thanks Jon
I think the colour choices came out very well and I particularly like that blue/grey interior shade.

Re: Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

Very nice!
Not the best kit ever (by Revell) but certainly a very good result...

Re: Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

Very nice build. But has a little mistake of side logo, it is dissymmetry in the real car, right side is like this:

this is my 612

@ ferrarifan-bj: What exactly do you mean? The position of the pininfarine-badge? Look at different 612s and youŽll find different positions of the side badges.

Your model looks good, too, but the holes in the disc-brakes should be drilled or blackened.
