Front end noise 2001 Escape

Tire noise is due to "hard rubber" tires, I suspect she chose a lower end tire since she is short on cash. The best way to deal with road noise is to install Michelins or Bridgestones, The soft rubber compound used in their tires virtually eliminates road noise. I had installed HanKooK on my 01 and after a few trips around town they were taken off. Lesson learned.

I agree that cheapier tires do have more road noise because of the harder compound.

I did replace the left side front bearing the other day and the noise has disappeared. Eventually the left side bearing was dry when I replaced the right side one and gradually became noisier.

Moral is: If you can afford it change both front bearings at the same time as the other side will fail within a short time after the opposite side has been replaced, this has happened to me on 2 seperate behicles the past couple months on 2 different makes of vehicles.
