Jeep shaking

96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited v8 4x4.

When I'm driving down the road around 50 mph, the steering wheel starts to shake back and forth. The car also vibrates with it. My passenger seat is now making a noise because its shaking so bad. Also I have to hold my steering wheel to the right to make the jeep go strait. It isnt getting any better over time, thats for certain, any ideas?

Re: Jeep shaking

Sounds like it is time for a front end alignment. If you don't do it soon, your tires will wear.

Re: Jeep shaking

Yup, alignment. Today.

While you're at it, have your tires balanced if they've got more than 15-20K miles on them.

You don't want this to get any worse, that's for sure. Do a search under "death wobble" in the Wrangler section and you'll see why.

Re: Jeep shaking

Thats for sure. If you have done any lift or if any of your bushings are worn, you could be getting death wobble. Have them checked out to.

Re: Jeep shaking

Death Wobble can often be resolved with an alignment, steering stabilizer, and/or track bar. In my '94 GC I replaced my steering stabilizer and it solved most of the problems. When wobble happened again I replaced the track bar (at the same time had wheels aligned) and haven't had trouble since then.

Re: Jeep shaking

check the tread on the front tires. if one tire is newer then it will pull to the other side. that just happend on the cherokee i just got.
there was a wobble and pulled to the left.i senn there was a new tire. had the front tires put on the back, and had the tires ballanced and now it rides real nice.
